Vint Davis
2010 Matrix 10U White Team |
General background. Coach Davis was born in Miami and grew up in Northern Virginia. He has played competitive basketball in high school, the U.S. Navy, junior college, and various local tournaments. Due to a rapid decline in physical abilities, Coach Davis currently plays basketball once a week with an “older” group of players, where he struggles mightily to get up and down the court.
Coaching experience. Coach Davis has been coaching 16 to 18 year old young men in the East Prince William Basketball Association for the past 18 years. His teams have advanced to the tournament final or league championship game 10 times during this span. Two of his former players served as assistants and now coach in the same league. This will be his second year coaching in the Matrix system and he is thrilled to be a part of it.
Coaching Philosophy. Coach Davis employs these principles when teaching the game of basketball to young players:
- foster the player’s love of the game
- stress the importance of hard work and the ensuing rewards
- the need for sound fundamentals cannot be overstated
- good sportsmanship and a shared goal are the cornerstones of any successful team
- have fun!
- have lots of fun!!
Additional Info. Coach Davis lives in Arlington with his wife, Karim, who played high school basketball locally and schools him in the driveway on a regular basis. They share their home with three children: Joe, Sydney and Tony. Sydney has played for the Matrix the last seasons. Joe played for his dad during the 2009/10 EPWBA season.
